What are the Ideal Golf club distances? This is the number one question a lot of newbies ask. It depends. There are a lot of variables on which the sum of your golf distance will depend on: the club you use, the ball you use, the conditions under which you play ( hard fairway or soft fairway? windy or calm? humid or dry? etc .), your gender and age, height, weight, physical state, motor skills and athleticism, your swing speed, how solidly you are connecting with the ball. See? Now consider these facts; PGA pros hit their drives anywhere from 280 yards to 320 yards on average. LPGA pros hit their drives from 230 to 270 yards on the average while most amateurs - according to Golf Digest - average somewhere around 195-205 yards with their drivers. There really is no standard or “ideal” golf club distances! You are better off finding out what your average golf club distances is rather than trying to follow what the perceived optimum or PGA golf distance standards are. Why not measure your golf club distances against those you play golf with? This will give you a better idea of whether you are a "long" hitter or "short" hitter. There's no shame in being a short hitter. For even if you hit the ball that far, it doesn't matter if you can't hit it straight! As for looking for a set golf club distance for a given type of golf, that would be difficult. It depends on the player and the club. Some golfers are stronger or weaker. Some are more or less skilled. The club shaft they use is longer or shorter. The angle of the club face is more or less steep. These all affect how long a ball will go when hit by a given club. However, if you get a matched set of clubs, they should all work the same relative to each other. That is, if you choose any club, then as you go up and down the scale, you should hit each subsequent club around 10-15 yards longer or shorter. So you simply figure out which one of the clubs does this consistently for YOU, and what the between club differential is for YOU. Then you know exactly which club to use in which situation. This will be your average golf club distances. Still you will find set golf club distances charts all over the net. But these charts will hardly ever match. Because golf club distances depends more on your playing prowess than on the clubs you play with. So - Tee it high and let it fly!
